Hornsea Pottery Collectors and Research Society

The society exists to promote the collecting of Hornsea pottery and to research the history of the pottery and its products, from its humble beginnings in 1949 to the present day.

We try to help collectors find and verify pieces that were never documented in the early days of the factory.

Members find that Society meetings are an excellent place to increase their knowledge and collections of Hornsea. Anyone who is tired of trailing around fairs and car boot sales finding very little Hornsea Pottery will be in Hornsea Heaven.

The society meets six times a year in various parts of the country. These are very friendly affairs and at most meetings a buffet is provided.

Members who have brought items of Hornsea Pottery for sale are welcome to set out their stalls. Everyone can buy, sell or exchange items.

At each meeting we have an auction of pieces where members are invited to bid for rare items and enter items for sale.

We have occasional talks about the early days of the pottery from some of the leading designers who worked there and from past employees several of whom are members of the society.

There is usually an expert at a meeting who can identify unmarked pieces or tell you a little more about them.

You can have an amiable chat with other members about your collection and your lucky finds and enjoy some nice refreshments and loads of Hornsea banter.

Magazine

The Society produces a quarterly magazine for all members.

This includes some very interesting articles about various Hornsea pieces, letters and members’ unusual finds. Some articles explore research into other potteries connected to the Hornsea factory.

There are lots of pictures, some in colour to help you identify pieces.

Members can also advertise their sales, wanted, and swap items.

Details, maps and directions are given to all meetings

A very good read for anybody interested in Hornsea pottery.
